Public Engagement Section Request Form - Special Council - June 26, 2025

Members of the public wishing to speak virtually during the Public Engagement section of the Special Council Meeting regarding an Educational and Informational Session on Part VI.1 of the Municipal Act, 2001 scheduled on Thursday June 26, 2025 must register no later than 2:30 PM on Thursday, June 26, 2025. To register, please complete and submit this Public Engagement Request Form.

A computer with a microphone and internet access or access to a phone is required.

A maximum of fifteen spaces have been reserved for virtual speakers with the balance reserved for those appearing in-person. As the Public Engagement section of the meeting is limited to a maximum of 90 minutes there is no assurance that each registered virtual speaker will be heard.

Please note that: 

  • The Public Engagement section of the meeting will occur after a presentation by  John Mascarin (Aird & Berlis LLP), which is subject to Council’s funding of the presentation at its regular meeting on June 23, 2025.
  • In the event that the meeting, including the Public Engagement section, is to proceed beyond 8:30 PM, a vote of 2/3 of members of Council present may be required pursuant to the City’s Procedure By-law.

 

Speakers are required to provide their name and if they are a resident or non-resident. By participating in the Public Engagement, you agree to:

  • Speak only to the general scope and practical implications of Strong Mayor Powers and Orillia Mayor McIsaac’s acquisition and use of Strong Mayor Powers;
  • Speak respectfully when addressing Council;
  • Use proper language and refrain from derogatory, defamatory comments or profanity;
  • Comments regarding current or pending litigation, insurance claims, or personal and personnel matters or matters that are deemed confidential in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act will not be permitted;
  • Refrain from using signs or placards or from distributing written brochures, flyers or other promotional materials; and
  • Obey the rules of procedure or a decision of the Chair.
