2022 Citizen of the Year Nomination Form
The Orillia Citizen of the Year Award will be facilitated by the Office of the Mayor in order to ensure an annual presentation of the award to the individual who best meets the following criteria:
- Nominees must be residents of Orillia, Chippewas of Rama First Nation, or the townships of Oro-Medonte, Ramara or Severn, who have contributed to the betterment of Orillia.
- The decision will be based on the nominee's accomplishments as a volunteer in 2022.
- Past actions and contributions to the community may support the nomination.
- Emphasis is placed on the individual’s volunteer efforts and not their professional, employment or work role.
- The number of nominations for an individual is not a contributing factor in the selection process.
- Nominations are not permitted from the selection panel or City of Orillia Council members.
- A person may be nominated any number of times, but shall only be eligible to receive the award once.
A selection panel of 7 voting members will scrutinize all nominations, made up of the following members/representation:
- 4 former Citizen of the Year recipients, wherein the eldest of the 4 recipients shall have the first option to retire from the panel, and whereby any vacant seat shall be offered first to the most recent recipients
- 2 members of the local media preferably from different media forms (digital, print,
radio)
- 1 representative of a community based organization such as the Chamber of Commerce, Community Development Corporation, Downtown Orillia Management Board or other local service club (Rotary, Kiwanis, Probus, etc.)
The Mayor or his/her designate will participate to facilitate the process only, and will not vote on the nominations.
The award shall be presented by Council at a regularly scheduled Council meeting early in the spring of 2023.
Nomination open Monday, January 16, 2023 with the deadline for nominations being 12 p.m. (noon) on Monday, February 6, 2023. Nominations must be submitted using the nomination form available online at orillia.ca, or from the Customer Service Desk located in the Orillia City Centre. Submissions must include the full name of and contact information for the nominator and the nominee, as well as a detailed explanation of why the nominee deserves to be named Citizen of the Year.
Nominees must be residents of Orillia, Chippewas of Rama First Nation, or the townships of Oro-Medonte, Ramara or Severn, who have contributed to the betterment of Orillia. Emphasis should be placed on the nominees' volunteerism and accomplishments during 2021.
The 2022 Citizen of the Year panel includes Mayor Don McIsaac (non-voting member), and former winners Marci Csumrik, Michael Gordon, Fred Larsen, and Stan Mathewson, as well as Pure Country 106 Morning Host Carey Moran, OrilliaMatters editor Dave Dawson, and Mario Tulipano with the Rotary Club.
